You do not need to be everywhere. Pick the right platforms, plan content you can keep up and measure what brings enquiries.
Many small businesses post randomly, get little response and give up. A simple strategy fixes this. The goal of social media is not likes. It is trust, visibility and enquiries.
Step 1: Decide the goal
Choose one main goal for the next three months, for example:
- Get more enquiries through WhatsApp and calls.
- Get more admissions or course enquiries.
- Make your brand known in your city.
Step 2: Know your customer
Write a short description of your ideal customer: age group, what they worry about, what they ask before buying and where they spend time online. Every post should help this person.
Step 3: Choose two platforms, not six
- Instagram: great for visual businesses, short videos (Reels) and reaching younger audiences.
- Facebook: useful for local communities, events and an older audience.
- YouTube: strong for teaching and long-term search traffic.
- LinkedIn: best for B2B, software, training and hiring.
- WhatsApp Business: not a feed, but excellent for conversations, catalogues and follow-ups.
Master two before you add a third.
Step 4: Plan content pillars
Pick three or four themes so you always know what to post:
- Educate: tips, how-tos and answers to common questions.
- Show proof: customer stories, results, behind-the-scenes work.
- Engage: polls, questions and quick Q&A.
- Promote: offers, new batches or services, with a clear next step.
A good mix is mostly useful content with promotion in a minority of posts.
Step 5: Make a simple calendar
Decide how often you can realistically post, for example three times a week, and write it into a calendar a month ahead. Batch the work: record several short videos in one session and schedule them. Consistency beats occasional bursts.
Step 6: Create content people finish
- Open with a strong first line or the first three seconds of a video.
- Keep one idea per post.
- Use clear, natural language, in the language your audience speaks.
- End with one call to action: "Message us on WhatsApp" or "Book a free demo".
- Use real photos and videos of your work and team instead of generic images.
Step 7: Reply and build relationships
Answer comments and messages quickly. Thank people for reviews. Social media is a conversation, and a prompt reply often wins the customer.
Step 8: Measure what matters
- Enquiries (calls, messages, forms) and where they came from.
- Reach and views, to see what content gets attention.
- Saves, shares and comments, which show real interest.
- Clicks to your website, tracked in Google Analytics 4.
Review monthly. Keep the content types that work and drop the ones that do not.
Should you run paid ads?
Organic posts build trust, while paid ads on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) reach more people faster. Start paid campaigns once you have a clear offer and a page or WhatsApp flow that turns clicks into enquiries. See our small business digital marketing guide for the full picture.
